Butlins, Skegness–Thursday

It was our last day on Thursday, even though Butlins do give you a few more activities to choose from on Friday morning. We had to get to Nanny’s for lunch so we left just after 9.30am on Friday morning.

I stayed home in the morning while Ant took the kids to see Thomas’s Skyline adventure. Aiden spent the day with his friend, Chloe who came for the day as a visitor.
I got everything packed up that we didn’t need so that we’d ready to leave by 10am the next morning.

I went with Ant and the girls to watch them swimming in the afternoon and got told off, well, given a stern look by a lifeguard before he phoned through and got the announcer to tell everyone that photography wasn’t allowed when he saw me trying to get pictures of the girls!

It was like a sauna in there and I had difficulty breathing until I got used to it.
They all had a great time again 🙂

After swimming, we went and had the most delicious milk shake I’ve ever had in my life! It was made from pear drops and I’ve never tasted anything like it. It was quite expensive but worth it!
We waited for Titan the robot but it turned out to be a waste of time because it got so packed when his show started that I didn’t get to see him at all. Ant tried to get to some photos but there were too many people.
We also waited around for the Titan photo shoot that was advertised in the book but when we went at the time it said, it was all closed up.

It was quite annoying, especially as it was our last day and we’d waited round for over an hour with 2 young girls, trying to keep them entertained so Aiden could have his photo taken with Titan and yet again, an advertised activity didn’t take place.

I was very pleased to get back to the apartment and get a good nights sleep before leaving the next morning.

All in all, we really enjoyed our holiday but next year, we’re planning on a more relaxing environment and we want to centre the activities on family time, where we can all do everything together and not have bored kids hanging round because they’re too small to go on the rides.

We were out early on Wednesday because KayCee and Ella wanted to go to Make and Take at The Studio. It’s a craft session running from 9-11am.
We got there around half nine and the girls were given black paper to make a Halloween card.

We spent about an hour there and the girls really enjoyed it. There are printed pictures to choose from when you’ve finished the days special activity and Ella chose a witches hat while KayCee chose a fairy.
After the craft session, we went to the soft play area for a while before going to the funfair to find Ant and Aiden.
A few carousel rides, trampoline jumps, dodgem crashes and tugboat rides later and we decided to go home for lunch.

I couldn’t resist a look round the gift shop on our way back and we finished our gift shopping for friends and family.
We also picked up the photo of the kids with Bugs, Daffy and Tweety that they had taken yesterday.
After lunch, Ant took the kids swimming while I rested my foot. They had a brilliant time and all agree that Splash waterworld is brilliant!
When we arrived last Friday, the kids were given a trick or treat trail card and yesterday they followed the clues then went to pick up their prize from the Butlins help desk. They each got a bag of Haribo Halloween sweets.
They all came home for dinner and we had a relaxing evening in the apartment.

Butlins, Skegness–Tuesday

I had a lazy day on Tuesday after the exertion of the previous day. We decided to take a trip to the local Co-op to stock up on food for meals. We’d planned to have various take-aways for dinner so we didn’t have to cook but after spending £60 in one day on lunch and dinner, we decided we couldn’t justify the expense any longer and we’d rather spend our holiday money on fun things!
Aiden waited at the apartment while we went shopping. He’s a typical boy and always stays at home if he can when we shop!
I treated myself to a Christmas magazine and a puzzle book and the girls had a girly magazine each that had headbands, a glove and a necklace as free gifts.
After lunch, Ant took the kids to Centre Stage to watch Sleeping Beauty pantomime. What we didn’t know was that at the start of the week, we should have gone and picked up wristbands to enable us to have a seat at shows. We knew nothing of this; the girls ended up sitting on the floor, Aiden ended up coming home because everywhere he tried to sit he got moved by a redcoat telling him he couldn’t sit there and Ant ended up standing for the most part until someone took pity on him and passed him a chair.
Ant wasn’t at all impressed and it was one of the few things that we were disappointed with.
After the panto, the kids went for a photo shoot with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Tweety. Aiden went back to the pavilion in time for the photo shoot then they all came back to the apartment for dinner.
The beach at Butlins closes at 5.30 so we decided to take the kids for an hour or so before dinner. They needed to run off some excess energy!

It was freezing a bit cold on the sea front but it didn’t bother the kids.
Ella was down at the sea with KayCee and Ant, trying to fill her bucket so she could tip it in the hole Aiden was digging when the tide took her legs from under her. Ant was filming at the time and the camera ended up filming the inside of his pocket while he rescued her. She was fine, it didn’t bother her at all and she tried to go back in after her bucket…. Ant stopped her and rescued the bucket!

She walked home in Ant’s jumper and everyone had a nice warm shower when we got back before tucking into bonfire sausages, (a special recipe from the Co-op including apples and black treacle) mash, peas and caramelised onion gravy. It was delicious, although KayCee didn’t like the sausages, which is typical of KayCee!
